Zimmerman Youth Baseball: Tryouts

Tryout Information

Travel Baseball registration takes place in November, December and January. Parents can expect to pay an additional amount to the regular registration fees once your player is placed on a travel team. This amount, $125.00, will cover items such as league fees, tournament fees and other team expenses.

Team selection is on a competitive basis, as players are evaluated in comparison with others in their age group. Eligibility is based on the participant’s age as of April 30.  Tryout evaluations measure performance in hitting, throwing, infield and outfield skills.

Players not making a travel team will automatically be placed in our competitive house league.

9U, Majors and Minors Evaluations are conducted in March.  Registration will open in February.  See the calendar for specific dates and times.

Travel Tryout Process

We are excited about the coming year of baseball! The following outline has been prepared to explain the tryout process in detail.  We are very confident that we have created a system that gives everyone an equal chance to compete for a spot on these teams.  The Travel Coordinator will attempt to form at least one team at each age level however if numbers allow there may be the opportunity for multiple travel teams formed, AA & A. This is dependent on the number and skill level of players trying out for each age level.

The tryouts will be judged by professional evaluators, closed to the public, in January. The top players from tryouts will make a team roster, the remaining roster of 10 to 12 players may be filled by the travel coach in selecting from the list of players that paid and registered for tryouts.  Players must attend tryouts to compete for those top evaluated spots.  Any absence from tryouts MUST be approved by the Travel Coordinator.

Thank you for your commitment to Zimmerman Youth Baseball. We look forward to seeing you at the ballpark!

Tryout Guideline

The players will be evaluated on the following areas by 3rd party professional evaluators:

  • Fly balls: (Catching form, Overall Fundamentals)
  • Throwing: (Overal velocity and accuracy)

Spectators

No spectators will be allowed during tryouts. This rule will be strictly enforced and we ask that you all respect this request!

Judges

The judges used are qualified to score and evaluate youth baseball players. Some pre-selected travel coaches may be at the tryout and may be keeping their own scores of players. Their scores will only be used for potential player selections after the top scoring players have made a travel team roster and will have no input or weight in the tryout judges evaluation scores. The qualifications of some of the judges are as follows.

  • Professional Baseball player
  • Collegiate Baseball players
  • Professional Baseball Instructor
  • Tryout judges for other communities
  • Coaches from various levels
